But why does the battery of a phone drain inspite of kept switched off?
Because each battery have their fixed time period specially (Li-ion)batteries after that it will completely discharged.
When phone is switched off internal processes like time,date,..etc are running and use the battery power.
Many of the phones also have capability to ring the alarm while the phone is switched off.
Additionally, a Lithium ion battery experiences self-discharge at a rate of 1.5-3% of capacity a month due to internal chemical reactions, even if it is not in use.
If you disconnected the battery from the phone, only self-discharge would happen.
If your battery drains faster please check the battery, if it is swallowed then replace your battery.
